The Morita chilli is a fully ripened, red jalapeño chilli that is lightly smoked and dried. Thanks to the short smoking time, it retains its dark, reddish-purple colour and delights with a complex flavour profile: A pleasant, medium heat with a smoky sweetness and hints of dark chocolate.
In Mexican cuisine, it is used primarily to enhance stewed meat dishes, spicy marinades and fresh salsas, for which it is usually first soaked in hot water and then puréed with roasted tomatoes.
